Ruth Jean Delphine Pfennig (Weiss), 98, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 23, 2024. The 8th of 11 children, Ruth Jean was born May 19, 1926, in Cele, Texas, to Ewald and Augusta (Pflug) Weiss.
Ruth Jean graduated from Pflugerville High School in 1944. She married the love of her life Victor Rudolph Pfennig on November 24, 1946, and the two were married for over 70 years before Victor passed in 2017. Together they raised four children.
Ruth Jean worked at Lammes Candies in Austin, Texas. She then put her gift of cooking to work as a kitchen manager for Pflugerville High School for many years before retiring in 1988. She and Victor spent their retirement years traveling and RV camping in Colorado and many other wonderful places.
Ruth Jean loved family, cooking, gardening, canning, playing dominos and games with her family, and never turned down a casino trip. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild will remember her for her warmth, laughter, and big hugs.
Ruth Jean was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville, Texas, where she held many leadership positions, including serving on Alter Guild, Welcome Team, and her Circle group. In May 2024, she was recognized as the oldest living member of the church at its 150th celebration.
Remaining to cherish Ruth Jean’s memory are her children Rachel Ann Cauley, Karen Elaine Petty, and Barry Don Pfennig and their spouses Jerry, Don, and Marian; her eight grandchildren Heather, Steven, Laura, Katie, Mandie, Travis, Donnie, and Christian, and their spouses; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, and her surviving siblings, nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
Preceding Ruth Jean in death are Victor and her beloved son Terry Dale Pfennig, along with her parents and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 500 Immanuel Rd., Pflugerville, Texas. The Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation at 11am. Graveside burial will follow the funeral service and a light lunch and refreshments will be served afterwards in the Parrish Hall.
