Sara Lou Millard was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend. She passed away on Christmas Eve – December 24, 2021 at the age of 80, in her Liberty Hill home. Her battle with dementia in recent years showed her courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the struggles, Lou came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
She was born on January 30, 1941 to her parents Roy & Sarah Pittman who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death; husband, Charles Millard; son, Mark Millard; sisters, Dorothy Minor and Cora Barnes; brothers, Gerald, Bodie, James and Bruce Pittman. She is survived by her sons; David Millard and his wife, Diana and Matthew Millard; two grandchildren; Michael Millard and his daughter Zoey (great-granddaughter), Jaeson Millard and his wife Paige. Also surviving is sister, Jeannie Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
After graduating from McCallum High School in 1960, she married the man of her dreams, Charles (Chuck) Millard. Together, they had three children: Matthew, Mark and David.
In the following 16 years, Lou and her family lived in Ohio, South Carolina, California, Kansas and Mississippi. In that timeframe she was a devoted wife and mother. She managed to squeeze work in as an aid in a nursing home, she also assisted her husband with pizza baking and delivery on base. And, if that wasn’t enough, she wanted to take a stab at stomping grapes at the vineyard. Before leaving Mississippi, Lou worked as a maid in a local hotel. This is where she had the opportunity to meet President Carter.
In 1977 she decided to call Texas home and moved to Round Rock. She started her professional career with Motorola and retired after 20 years.
Retirement treated Lou with open arms as she blossomed into more creativity and fun. She loved dancing and danced as if she was on air. She loved bowling and definitely showed everyone she could hold her own against anyone. Lou continued her devotion to family with many camping trips and family vacations across the states. She started many collections, such as stamps, teapots and angels. She loved seeing her grandson’s play soccer and football. She devoted her Friday nights and weekends to them. It was a real treat when her great-granddaughter was in town so she could spoil her like crazy. And, Lou loved playing bingo and slots. Lady lucky was always on her side in winning those big jackpots. In later years, Lou and Chuck would sit countless hours putting jigsaw puzzles together, she also loved to crochet blankets. She would give as gifts to countless friends and family.
Sara Lou was an amazing woman who opened her heart to all. She loved her family so much and would do anything for them. She was a trooper with her Aspen Hospice team and even in days she struggled, she still managed to put a smile on her face and say “Hi there!”.
Thank you to everyone that showed your support for Sara Lou, all your prayers and love were well received and appreciated.
