Kay, at the age of 92, dusted off her dancing shoes and waltzed into the gates of heaven on November 16, 2016. She was born in Harleyville, South Carolina on July 11, 1924, the fourth of nine children, to Shuler Pinckney Kizer and Minnie Bowman Kizer. She grew up on a farm with her four sisters and four brothers. Upon graduation from high school, Kay moved to Charleston, South Carolina where she met Daryl Kruger, a Marine from Texas who swept her off her feet. They soon married and moved to Texas where they raised their two daughters, Kerry and Kathy.
Kay attended Nixon Clay Business School. She worked at the Texas Employment Commission where she retired after 20+ years of service. She was a faithful member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church. Kay’s love for dancing was unsurpassed. She and Daryl enjoyed ball room dancing and met many lifelong friends during their dancing escapades. In addition to dancing, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and crocheting.
Daryl preceded Kay in death in 1996 after 51 years of marriage. She is also preceded in death by her mother and father; her sisters, Hazel Wagers, Elsa Whetsell, Betty Weathers, and Sue Wimberly; her brothers, Stacey, Johnny, Lindy, and Wallace Kizer.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Kerry (Ken) Williams of Lake Buchanan, and Kathy (Lynn) Robbins of Pflugerville; grandchildren, Kris (Amy) of Round Rock, Kyle (Kelli) of Ft. Worth, and Kody (Kathi) Williams of Georgetown, Tammy Robbins Polk of Pflugerville and Dusty (Michael Akers) Robbins of Liberty Hill; great-grandchildren, Grant, Grace, Kynleigh, and Kylee Williams, and Landon Polk.
Kay is a twice survivor of lung cancer; however, Alzheimer’s/dementia took control of her life starting in 2005. She resided in Llano at Walden Court Assisted Living until she fell and broke her hip in June 2016. At the time of her death, Kay resided at Pflugerville Care Center. The family would like to thank the staff at both Walden Court and Pflugerville Care for the love and compassion they showed Kay during this trying time of her life.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m., with interment immediately after.
