Siyoum Fenta Habte was born on January 25, 1941, in Gojjam, Ethiopia, to the parents of Fenta Habte and Mnthunegn Kassa. In his early teen years, Mr. Siyoum moved to the city of Addis Ababa with no money in his pocket. However, with the help of one of the clergies in Miskaye Hizunan Medhanealem monastery and church, he received religious education in the church to serve God and followed by a higher academic education. Once he graduated from Addis Ababa University in 1974, Mr. Siyoum worked in different Ethiopian government offices in various positions and then pursued his hotel management career. He worked for many hotel chains as an administrative manager until the day he retired.
Mr. Siyoum enjoyed his hobbies of swimming and playing cards, and he was passionate about his political views. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. In June 2007, Mr. Siyoum moved to Austin, TX, to be close to his children. Unfortunately, the same year he got diagnosed with dementia. The disease progressed so fast, and he was only given up to six months to live. Nevertheless, that was not God’s plan, so our lord blessed him with another Thirteen years to be with his children until he was called home on October 16, 2020, to be reunited with his wife.
Mr. Siyoum was preceded in death by his wife, Adanech Demma; parents, Fenta Habte and Mnthunegn Kassa; brother, Alemayeh Fenta; and his granddaughter, Angel Yegnanesh Dawit.
Those left to cherish Mr. Siyoum’s precious memories are his daughters, Etsegenet Fanta and Darmyelesh Fenta; his son and daughter-in-law, Mulualem Fanta and Allyson Wainer; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Mulualem, Beza Bethlehem Mulualem, and Ethan Tylor Mulualem; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2020 in The Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas followed by a committal service and burial in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
