Sophronia Diggs

Sophronia Diggs was born March 16, 1922 in Edna, Texas and passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 in Austin, Texas. Sophronia was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Richard and granddaughter of Annie Gipson of Edna, Texas.

The year of 1938, she and the late Russell Diggs, Jr. were married and to this family two children were born, Russell Diggs, III and Josephine Diggs Williams. Mr. Diggs passed in 2003.

The Diggs family moved to Austin, Texas in 1950 and Sophronia went to work for the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Sharp, who she assisted about 50 years. Soon after moving to Austin, she joined Olivet Baptist Church. In the year of 2004, Sophronia joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church where Pastor A. W. Anthony Mays led the worship services.

Sophronia is survived by her family: one son, Russell Diggs, III of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Josephine Diggs Williams of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Russell Diggs IV, Anthony L. Diggs, Donald Malone, Donna Lynn McNeece, Rhonda Bonner, Sophronia Williams, Kimberley Bell, and Debbie Hill. She also leaves fourteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
