

Sriyalatha (Sriya) Sooriarachchi, nee Dodangoda, passed away peacefully on August 7th, 2025 at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Senerath W. Sooriarachchi; devoted mother of Nilanthi, Mahesh (Piumi), Vasantha (Shari) and Sanjaya (Kusali); loving grandmother of Rose, Isaiah, Gimhana and Dulhana; sister of Prema (Siri) Gamage, Ranjith (Eromi) Dodangoda, Sisira and Mahendra Dodangoda, Dhammika (Harsha) Karannagoda and the late Swarna (Lionel) Silva and Sarath (Vinitha) Dodangoda; sister-in-law of Sujatha Suriyaarachchi (Amarasekara Vitharana), Sunanda (Don) Ariyarathna, Dr. Para (Vivienne) Suriyaarachchi, Dr. Gamini (Dr. Chandrika) Soori and the late Chandra (D.S.) Rupasinghe and Swarna (Jack) Amarasinghe; loving aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Born in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, to Mr. D.P. Dodangoda and his wife Silina Karannagoda, Sriya attended Princess of Wales College in Moratuwa where she learned to play tennis. She became an avid tennis player and continued to play tennis at the University of Peradeniya. Her love of tennis was lifelong and she enjoyed watching tennis matches when she could no longer play.
Her love for her family was boundless. Known for her generous spirit, quiet strength and immense patience, she was ever ready to lend a sympathetic ear and a helping hand to family and friends. As a teacher, Sriya strove to instill in her offspring, her students and all children she met, a love of learning.
A lady of deep faith, she continued her daily ritual of worshiping the Buddha every morning until the day she passed.
A Buddhist funeral service will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home on August 17th at 10am followed by a reception.
