

Susan Gail Reson Griffin passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021. Susan was a generous, gracious and loving light to all who knew her. She was born in Alice, Texas on December 22, 1952. Growing up, Susan was active in Alice ISD and First Baptist Church Alice. Upon graduating from William Adams High School in 1970, Susan attended Texas A&I University before pursuing graduate work at Texas Tech University in the field of geriatric healthcare. In 1997, she became a proud graduate of the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Susan had many productive years working for the Texas Department of Health, Texas Medical Association and Texas Health Institute. Throughout her career, Susan served in a number of noteworthy positions, including on the Rosalynn Carter Taskforce on Mental and Rural Health, head of the Cancer Registry of Texas and programs targeting the reduction of childhood obesity. Upon retiring from the Texas Health Institute, Susan carried her skills and passion for helping children into a new career at Camp Doublecreek Day Camp in Round Rock, Texas.
SuSu, as she was known the those who loved her, truly cared for everyone she met. She was creative, artistic, an accomplished musician and the world’s best aunt. An ardent animal lover, her menagerie of pets included cats, dogs, horses and even a pig!
Susan is survived by her adoring husband of 38 years, J R Griffin, Austin, sister Debbie Klein (Don), Cedar Park, brother-in-law Les Griffin (Betty), Plainview, sister-in-law Janis Reeder (Philip), Round Rock, nieces Emily Davis (Wally), Naomi Nelson (Tony), Courtney Prinzo (Brian), nephews Nathan Griffin (Valerie), Kevin Klein (Lauren), Griffin Reeder (Dara) and a host of cherished family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara and Sonny Reson of Alice.
An inurnment service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 11, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Atrium of First Baptist Church Round Rock, 306 Round Rock Ave.
