

Susie Velasquez Rosas of Austin, Texas, gained her angel wings on December 22, 2021 at the age of 87 years old. Susie was born in Giddings, Texas to Frank and Eloisa Velasquez and was the oldest of 8 children. Susie was raised in Elgin, Texas where she met and married her husband, Pablo Rosas and raised their only son in the Austin area.
Susie worked for the State of Texas School for the Blind as a houseparent and retired with more than 20 years of service.
She enjoyed staying busy throughout her life by volunteering in the community that included assisting with the elderly, Habitat for Humanity and her yearly tradition of working with Blue Santa. Susie was a member of the Lions Club of North Austin, VFW and Loners on Wheels and was an active member of High Pointe Baptist Church.
Susie also very much enjoyed baking, gardening and camping throughout the United States in her fifth wheel camper, but most importantly, she enjoyed watching her three grandchildren grow up who they affectly knew her as “Nani”.
She is survived by her son Abel Rosas (Joanne), grandchildren Heather Hardaway (Chad), Marissa Meditz (Adriel) and Adam Rosas; sisters Amparo Longoria (Homer), Eloise Wise (Jesse) and Beatrice Kirk; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends that she held close to her heart.
Susie is preceded in death by her parents; husband Pablo; sister Virginia Lopez; brothers Gilbert Velasquez, Roy Velasquez and Frank Velasquez, Jr.
The family would like to especially thank Eloise Wise for her help in caring for Susie. Anyone who knew Susie was amazed by her strong, independent, kind-hearted and loving nature and will be forever missed by all who met and loved her.
A funeral service celebrating Susie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at High Pointe Baptist Church, 12030 Dessau Road, Austin. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
