Thelma Lynn Harden Fowler was the third child born to Mozell and Rosie Lee Harden on March 7, 1951 in Bastrop, Texas. She was baptized as a child at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Sayersville, Texas under the leadership of Reverend E. R. McShan. She attended Emile Elementary and graduated from Bastrop High School. After graduating, she moved to Austin to attend Durham Business College.
In 1974, Thelma joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.M. Franklin.
She met and married William “Bill” Fowler and from that union a handsome son, Frederick Fowler, and a beautiful daughter, Nikki Fowler were born. Frederick and Nikki were absolutely loved and adored by their mother. As a committed mother, she worked hard to provide her children with the best and managed to balance the demands of her family and career. As a loving mother, she embraced her children’s friends as if they were her own.
Thelma was employed and retired from the Travis County Adult Probation Department. She later worked for St. James Episcopal Church until her health began to fail.
With an infectious smile and wonderful personality, she didn’t know a stranger. Thelma would talk to anyone, and once you met her, you would never forget her. Thelma enjoyed celebrating life and the lives of others. She enjoyed reading, writing poems, discussing politics and current events, watching sports, helping others, and spending time with family and friends. She also liked to give words of encouragement to others.
