

Tommy Currie, Command Sergeant Major (CSM, Retired), departed this life on Friday, December 16, 2016 at his home in Round Rock, Texas. He was born on September 27, 1937 to parents Percy and Myrtle Currie in DeKalb, Mississippi.
Tommy accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church in DeKalb. In his later years, he joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.W. Anthony Mays.
After graduating from Whiston High School in DeKalb in 1956, Tommy worked construction in New Orleans, Louisiana for four years before joining the Army in 1960. Tommy remained in the Army for 30 years before retiring at the rank of CSM in 1990. During his years of service, Tommy attained both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from McKendree College in Lebanon, Illinois.
After his retirement from the Army in 1990, Tommy moved from Fort Riley, Kansas to Round Rock, Texas, where he built his house and started his own home construction business. Never one to fully retire, Tommy spent his days gardening, traveling, landscaping, and building.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Myrtle (Edwards) Currie; his first wife, Doris (Knox) Currie; his youngest son, Thomas Currie; brothers, Norman and Edward Currie; and sister, Geraldine (Currie) Lampley.
Left to remember Tommy are his wife, Rose Marie Currie; first son, Frederick Currie, San Antonio; stepdaughters, Susan Ricks (Ricky), Macon, GA and Stephannie Stanton (Ronnie), Riverdale, GA; daughter-in-law, Gina Currie, Round Rock, TX; one brother, A. Russell Currie (Mary), Flint, MI; two sisters, Geneva Wilson, Rock Island, IL and Jessie Deaton, DeKalb, MS; and four grandchildren, Andrea Currie, Terrence Currie, Tremayne Currie and Caitlin Currie; special nephew, Norman Currie, Meridian, MS; and a host of special friends, Leo Morris, Bradley and Sandra Dodd, Eric and Amy Peterson and Jenell Hunter.
