

Velma Irene Curry, age 87, of Rockport, Texas, passed away quietly surrounded by her family on November 22, 2017. She was born Velma Irene McMillan to Jesse and Alma (Marcum) McMillan in Austin, Texas on September 24, 1930.
Velma met and married the love of her life and best friend, Milton “Bill” Curry on April 6, 1948. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband “Bill” and daughter-in-law, Becky.
She loved cheering on her husband during Kapital Katz Motorcycle Club events. Later she and her husband loved fishing together and bragging about who caught the biggest and most fish. She was also a master at sewing, often teaching her daughter-in-law and grandchildren her art. She also made clothing for her children as they grew up. Her other talents were quilting, crocheting, needlepoint and ceramics. Velma loved sharing her love of ceramics. If the grandchildren were there visiting her, you would find them in the ceramic house creating master pieces.
Velma’s greatest accomplishment was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a loving and caring woman, but she could make you tow the line.
Velma was the beloved mother of her son, Leslie L. Curry of Bastrop; daughter, Barbara G. and husband Paul Newell of Rockport; son, Garry W. and wife Mary Curry of Bertram; son, Darrel E. and wife Wanda Curry of Norman, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation to be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. She will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
