Vernice Taylor Hill

Vernice Taylor Hill was born on November 11, 1941, in Lexington, Texas, Lee County, to the union of Ellen and Louis Taylor. She was the baby of 16 children. She graduated from Giddings High School in 1958 at the age of 16. A very smart young lady.

Vernice married Johnnie (Donnie) Hill on July 27, 1958. They went on to have 5 children: Cynthia, Gloria, Johnny, James, and Christopher.

Vernice attended night school while raising her 5 children. She began working at St. David’s Hospital as a nurse aide for 20 years. She became an Anesthesia tech and worked at Central Park for the Anesthesiology group of Austin for many years until retirement. She loved working so much that she went back to work with the doctors and nurses she loved so much. She loved her job and the people she worked with. She retired a second time.

Vernice was a proud member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas. She belonged to the Women’s missionary.

Vernice was the life of the party. She never came across a stranger. She was an entertaining and lovable person. Vernice was full of good vibes and left her mark on everyone she encountered. Vernice loved cooking Sunday dinners and cooking for the holidays. Vernice was truly a blessing.

Vernice is preceded in death by her son, Christopher “PeeWee”; her brothers, Harmon, Homer, Comer, Cornelius, Lola Mae, Eliza, Clifford, Melvin, and James; and her sisters, Lucy, Dorothy Lee, and Claudia Louise.

Vernice leaves to cherish her memory: 4 children; Cynthia Robinson, Gloria Hill, Johnny (Theresa) Hill, James (Candace) Hill; grandchildren: Nikki, Keisha, Vernica, Richard, Kourtney, Tyler, Harmon, and Elouise; great-grandchildren: Hunter, Paul Jr, Jordan, Jade, Damani, and Dior; her brothers: Louis Jr. and Richard; her sister, Ellen; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A visitation for Vernice will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 3417 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78721.

A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, 3417 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78721.

A committal service will occur Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at External Service Location, 14501 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
