Virgil is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diane, mother-in-law Cecil “Granny” Crawford, children Shannon Moore Nelson and husband Ian, son Chad Wesley Moore and wife Liz, four proud grandchildren Justin, Kami, Lauren and Jayton, siblings Linda Moore Mintier and Kenneth Moore and wife Malinda and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and three loved siblings.
Virgil was born on February 17, 1944 in Brady, Texas to Howard and Agnes Moore. He graduated Valedictorian from Brady High School in 1962 and had remained a proud member of the BHS alumni throughout the rest of his life, attending several reunions throughout the years. Following high school Virgil attended The University of Texas at Austin where, in 1966, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Math, minoring in Physics. He mastered several graduate degree classes to further his knowledge and expertise in the field as he began his career. After gaining his diploma from UT he remained within the Longhorn family and spent his next 36 years at Applied Research Labs of The University of Texas at Austin where he retired as a Senior Operating Systems Specialist in 2002. His career began on the emerging cusp of computer technology and he helped pioneer, through his research, the way from minicomputers to the technology we enjoy today.
His children Shannon and Chad remember him as a kind father who always encouraged them lovingly and supportively to work hard and pursue their goals. He was a well-read individual who enjoyed historical books about his Swedish heritage and read the Brady-Texas Herald daily to keep up with the happenings in his home town. He was passionate about sports, bled burnt orange, and was up to date on any and all Longhorn teams’ scores and standings. He was most proud of his four grandchildren and taught them to think, explore and, most of all, laugh.
