

Born January 31, 1922 to Smith Waverley and Lillie May Ligon in Burnet, Texas, she spent her entire life in Central Texas. She had been a resident of Austin since 1946.
Baptized at Burnet Church of Christ at age 13, she graduated early from Burnet High in 1938 at 16 where she was a band member. After high school, she enrolled in Civil Pilots Training where she met her future husband, Richard Leon Scott. They had three children.
As a high school honor student, Virginia received a lifetime scholarship to Nixon-Clay College in Austin where she received training that earned her a job that resulted in a career of more than 27 years at the Texas Department of Public Safety. She retired at 62, and she and Richard traveled the U.S, Canada, Mexico and Europe.
She took up oil painting at 78 and nurtured her love of music by playing her cherished organ. Video and still photography were two of her other hobbies.
She was a Girl Scout leader when her daughters were growing up. She also was a former trophy-winning Toastmaster.
Age may have slowed her down a bit in recent years, but she was forever up for a good time with her family and friends she lovingly called “The Wild Bunch” spending countless hours on her enclosed back porch playing Mexican Train and cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Selwyn Waverley Ligon, daughter Connie Jean Scott Cline of Fresno, Calif., granddaughter Elizabeth Marie Scott Bednarz of Lubbock, Texas, grandson Mason Waverley Scott of Austin, Texas and great-great grandson McKai Cline of Clovis, Calif.
She is survived by daughter Joyce Wells and her husband, Sammy of San Antonio; son Richard Scott and his wife Tami of Austin; 8 grandchildren, Carl Cullen Cline of Williston, N.D., Catherine Lois Cline Aujero of Fresno, Calif.; Sheri Leigh Wells Tacker of Marion, Arkansas; Timothy Scott Wells of San Antonio; Amy Catherine Scott Skudlarczyk of Austin; Jeremiah Waverley Scott of Austin, Shelby Ann Scott Oliphant of Bend, Oregon and Cameron Tucker Scott of Austin. She also has 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. The family would like to thank her caregiver, Irma Trevino.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 28th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 North IH 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660. Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks.
