Walter Lad Bartosh, Sr., resident of SPJST Assisted Living, Taylor, Texas passed away December 16, 2018 at the age of 93. He was born at home in Granger, Texas to Edmund and Marie Dubil Bartosh on January 7, 1925. After graduation, he answered his country’s call to duty and joined the navy. For a time he was stationed in Guam with a photo reconnaissance unit before he was chosen to attend OCS at Princeton University and was later sent to Tulane University. Returning home after the war, he met and married LaVerne Pasemann on September 28, 1947. After marriage, they moved to Austin and raised five children. They were married 62 years before her death in 2009.
Walter was a co owner of Hamilton Electric for many years and later opened his own business, Bartosh Distributing. He was a tireless worker, but most of all he was a fixer. Just because something broke, didn’t mean you threw it away. It could be rewired, reworked, and restored. He never minded getting a little grease on his hands. He may have been a little tight with his money, but he wasn’t tight with his love. Family meant everything to him, dancing was one of the great joys of his life and he was a serious forty-two player. Being the eleventh of thirteen children, he loved being surrounded by people and was an active member of many organizations that included Walnut Creek Optimist, Sons of Hermann, SPJST, and KJT.
Survivors include his five children, Don, Mary, Walter Lad, Jr., Tina, and Allen, his 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Two remaining sisters, Odie Hamilton, and Margie Pustejovsky also survive him. His smile, gentle demeanor, and happy birthday phone calls will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and a service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, December 22 at 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, TX. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
