Walter Bacon Troutman, 85, passed away on February 13, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on January 4, 1940, in Austin, Texas, he was the son of Jessie Lee Preece and Alfred Salathial Troutman. Walter graduated from McCallum High School before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1957.
During his service, Walter was stationed in various places, including New Orleans, Louisiana; San Antonio, Texas; Okinawa, Japan; Corpus Christi, Texas; and Austin, Texas, at The University of Texas. After leaving the Marine Corps, he settled in Beaumont, Texas, before eventually returning to Austin.
For over 45 years, Walter worked as a professional electrician, dedicating himself to his craft while also taking on home projects and assisting his family with electrical work. He had a deep passion for his trade. Outside of work, Walter could often be found singing around the house or savoring a good Dan’s Hamburger—simple joys that brought him happiness throughout his life. Over the years he told many stories about the coast, the Marines, and loving the ocean.
But his true passion in later years was his grandchildren. He cherished every moment with them, from dressing up for Halloween to attending ballgames and ensuring he never missed a birthday, Christmas, or any special event, including, enduring the six-hour car ride to Lubbock Texas, when he was 80 years old, to be there for the birth of his great-grandson.
Walter’s weekends were often filled with music, as he would move the coffee table aside to dance with his beloved wife, to old country and western songs. They called it “tummy rubbin’.” Walter’s sense of humor was unmatched, and his quick wit and stubbornness made him unforgettable. His presence filled every room, he had the ability to make everyone laugh, always leaving a lasting impression. He never met a stranger.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Lee and Alfred Troutman; his sisters, Jessie Lorraine, Lee Ruth, and Wynne; his brothers, Baby Troutman, Alfred, Clyde, Forrest, Bruce, and Alan; his sons, Buddy LaFrance and Troy Lee Troutman; and his spouses, Evelyn Curtis Troutman, Lynda Torn Troutman, and Linda Wood Troutman.
He is survived by his sisters, Barbara, Mary, Helen, and June; his children, Terry Ramm, Barbara LaFrance, Elizabeth Page, Chad Troutman, Steven Wood, and Stephanie Lockaby, along with their spouses.
Walter is also survived by his grandchildren: Janet Mabry, Jason Ramm, Christopher Page, Emily Page Hill, Hannah Troutman, Staton (CJ) Troutman, Trey Wood, and Mia Rogers, along with their spouses. His great-grandchildren, Makina and Riley Mabry, Lindsey Ramm Peters, West Page, and Alex Weishuhn.
Walter would always remind his family that they were loved. He would say, “Love you, Love you, Love you, and don’t you forget it!” From all of us to you, B... Dad... Papa… Grandpa, we love you, love you, love you, and we promise we won’t forget it.
Irish Blessing
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand.”
A visitation for Walter will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
