Wanda Lee Lemons, age 95, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Wanda was born on September 15, 1930, in San Benito, Texas, to Lee and Mickey McMurtry. Her family later moved to Amarillo, Texas, where she graduated from Amarillo High School. On July 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Donald (Don) Joe Lemons, and they are finally reunited. Together they showed us how to take lemons and turn them into a love story that lasted a lifetime.
Wanda had a knack for numbers and spent the majority of her career in the accounting industry specializing in tax-related matters. Within her long corporate career, she was particularly proud of the senior tax accounting positions she held with Deloitte & Touche and Lamar/Southwest Savings Association. Beyond just corporate matters, Wanda had obtained her Enrolled Agent certification from the IRS and prepared personal tax returns and provided other tax-related services for a great many clients throughout her life, up until just a few years before her passing. She was a longtime active member of the Pflugerville First Baptist Church.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don and son Kelly Lemons. She is survived by her brother, Roland Wayne McMurtry; daughter, Mickey Walden; daughter, Carla Webb and husband Wayne; son, Hal Lemons and wife Janel; son, Jack Lemons and wife Linda; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 9 am to 10 am at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral Services will then begin at 10 am at the funeral home with burial following at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery.
