

Willard H. Pfluger, passed from this world on Saturday, January 2, 2016. He was born on October 10, 1920 to Sophie and Albert Pfluger in Pflugerville, Texas and was the youngest of seven children. His forefathers came to the area in 1856 from Germany and were among the earliest settlers of the community.
Willard was a good athlete and participated in multiple sports in school. After graduating from Pflugerville High School in 1938, he attended Texas Lutheran College on a football scholarship and, in 1949, he was a member of the World Champion Softball Team playing for Nixon Clay College. Throughout his life, he was an avid golfer. He was a scratch, cross-handed player and played as often as time and his work schedule allowed.
Willard was a successful entrepreneur with enterprises in multiple arenas. He was a grain broker, a fuel broker and a wholesale auto broker. But the business that was also his passion was raising and breeding cattle. He was one of several ranchers to first bring the French Limousin cattle to Texas and served as President of the Texas Limousin Assoc. for three years.
Willard was a civic man and served as an officer and/or board member for multiple organizations. While he was the president of the Pflugerville Volunteer Fire Department he oversaw the acquisition of the town’s first fire truck. He also served as a president for the Pflugerville Lion’s Club, was a church council member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a director for First State Bank of Pflugerville.
Willard is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Camille Pfluger; his sister, Mildred Pfluger Parker; three step-children, Boone, Mary and Zoe Ann Heep; four grandchildren, Will and Ward Luedecke, Belle Anne Bybel and Bonnie Latham; seven great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nelia; his daughter, Cheryl Pfluger Luedecke; his parents, five of his siblings and their spouses.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 500 Immanuel Rd., Pflugerville, Texas. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
