William Fredrick Pullum, Jr. went peacefully to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on February 4, 2011, at the age of 93. He will always be missed by his family, but we are grateful that he could be with us for so many years.
Bill was born in Butte, Montana, on November 10, 1917 to William Fredrick Pullum, Sr. and Lenora J. Fackrell, who were natives of Utah living temporarily in Montana. Bill spent his earliest years in Trenton, Utah, and then in Ogden, Utah. In 1940 he married the love of his life, Ruth Jean Norton. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2010.
Before and during World War II, Bill served with the U.S. Army. In 1950, he and Ruth Jean and their three children moved to Eugene, Oregon, where he obtained a degree in theology from Northwest Christian College. They then moved to Stockton, California, where he became a prison counselor with the California Department of Corrections, retiring in 1979. He and Ruth Jean have lived in Austin since 1986, and are members of the Westover Hills Church of Christ.
In addition to Ruth Jean, Bill is survived by his children, Thomas, Robert and Margaret (Peggy) Pullum; five grandchildren, Willow Hemphill, Sara Pullum-Pinon, Eva Campbell, William Pullum and Ruth Pullum; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Teresia Nielsen and Diana Bryan; brother, Chester Pullum; and granddaughter, Jessie Pullum.
The family thanks Hospice Austin for their loving care during his final days.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
