

Yuen Kwong was born on November 27th, 1936 in 汶忖镇 (Wèn Cūn Zheng), Taishan City, China to Chan Kuan Zheng, father, and Su Shu Wen, mother.
Yuen Kwong, the patriarch of the Chan family, was a larger-than-life figure whose presence commanded rooms. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, known for his unwavering dedication to his family and his fierce fighting spirit.
In the 1970s, during the harsh period that followed the Great Chinese Famine, Yuen Kwong made the difficult decision to risk his life and escape communist China on foot. His purpose was to provide a better life and future for his family.
His bravery not only touched the lives of his wife and children but also extended to countless relatives and friends.
He was an active member and served as President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.
In his free time, he loved watching his grandchildren play and grow. He also had a passion for watching volleyball.
Survived by his five children, Hung Yee Chan (Xue Chan), Peter Chan (Chun Mei Chan), Victor Chan (Rebecca Liang), Jessica Chi (Yong Chi), Charlie Chan (Hong Shen) and ten grandchildren, Susana Chan (Prescott Nicholson), Dorothy Chan (William Janis), Danny Chan (Lynn Nguyen), Henry Chan (Jeanelle Visitacion), Mandy Chan, Erin Chi, Julianna Chan, Ellie Chan, Bella Chan, Ethan Chi, Yuen Kwong will be deeply missed.
A visitation for Yuen Kwong will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16th from 1-2 PM, followed by a committal service from 2-2:30 PM. All services will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home.
