

Yuri Brigham had the opportunity to visit many beautiful and exotic places because her father was in the Air Force.
Yuri was involved in many community affairs including: the United Way, Bowl for Big Brothers and Sisters, she was a member of the Black Women’s Caucus, The Texas Fine Literature Society, the Austin Writers’ League. She was very passionate for the homeless across the United States and throughout the world.
Yuri spent her free time bowling, reading, writing poetry and short stories, traveling, photographing, and meeting new people. She also, loved singing shopping with her mother, and keeping her in line.
Her first book Chitlins To Caviar was self published. Yuri’s poetry has been published in twelve anthologies and in The Griot, a student newspaper at The University of Texas at Austin. Her poems were featured in the followings books: Heartsong: A Poetry of Verse (1989); Summer Twilight (1989); Whispers in the Wind (1989); American Poetry Anthology (1989); On the Threshold of a Dream (1989); National Poetry Anthology (1989); My Heart Sings (1989); Windows on the World (1989); Voices on the Wind, Volume II (1989); Stairways of my Mind (1989); and In Search of the Perfect Poem (1989). Her writing accomplishments gained her the honor Poet of Merit in 1989.
Yuri worked for the city of Austin as a Librarian Assistant until she retired on October 31, 2001 because of illness.
