I think of Zadie almost daily as I see the beautiful needle work she made for our home. She was a wonderful neighbor when we lived in Victoria. She was a great example and role model of a good neighbor for all of us in the area.  We had teenagers and they had great respect for her. Years after they were adults and my son married, she sent he and his wife a beautiful needle work of art. They proudly display it in their professionally decorated home as well, where there is no other art of that sort. Zadie and I continued to correspond thru the mail. She was a blessing.

To the family,
I just learned that Zadie has passed away. She was such a sweet neighbor when we lived across the street from her in Victoria. I often think of her and I am sorry that I had lost touch with her. I thank God for placing her in my family's life.

Zadie was my grandma.  She was a woman that loved the simple pleasures in life and did not require much.  She would rarely spend on herself, but would often give to others.  I was always impressed with how hard she worked and how all animals loved her.  Grandma was only 5” tall, but she was a very strong, loving, faithful, and capable lady who never wanted anyone to make a fuss over her.  Growing up I remember how she kept a beautiful garden and in her house, all family dogs were welcomed and spoiled.  She always made me feel so welcome and I would often spend time with her in the summer.  She would get me books to read and would buy me art supplies to help keep me busy.   She would make me breakfast and tell me, “Don’t forget to drink your sunshine” which was the tiny glass of orange juice she would pour for me.   She would use her lunch hour every day to check on me.   At night, after dinner, we would watch Wheel of Fortune on television and I could always count on some blue bell ice cream.  On her days off, I remember her taking us to the pool and going to the Victoria Zoo.   I don’t remember her taking many vacations, but she loved taking day trips to the beach to have lunch. 

Thank you for being a wonderful grandma to me personally and thank you for all you did for us.  You gave us a place to live when we needed it, babysat us, bought us clothes, helped me buy books for school and even fixed the air conditioner in my car when you came visit me in college.  Enjoy your beautiful gardens, long walks with your dogs, and tell Grandpa “Hi” for me in Heaven.  Thank you for your kindness and generosity to us all.

Sweet Zadie, may you rest in peace!! May your soul along with the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy  of God, rest in peace!! You will definitely be missed by those who love you.  it's sad when loved ones leave us, but God always has a perfect plan.  Maybe Heaven needed a few more flowers in the garden.

For your family, I pray for God's ultimate comfort and peace that surpasses all human understanding.

I feel so blessed to have gotten to know, and care, for Zadie. Her laugh and stories were the highlight of my work day! I was honored enough to be dubbed “her best friend” and frequently spent my down time in her apartment listening to stories about her family, especially the kids.  She was moved into our facility, but found a home in my heart! I loved her and will profoundly miss her and her contagious laugh. 
My thoughts and prayers are with Kay and the rest of those who loved Zadie. I pray you find solace in your memories and celebrate the life of one of the most amazing women I’ve ever had the privilege to care for.
