Our beloved Father, brother, grandfather (Poppa), cousin, uncle, nephew and friend Maurice McCray, passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2020. He was surrounded by his family and longtime friend after enduring and battling until the very end.
Maurice was born on April 21,1956 to Roosevelt McCray Sr. and Dorothy Mae Smith in Chicago, IL. He had 11 siblings. He went to Simeon High School. He was studious and athletic and played baseball. An area of particular interest was Science. This allowed him to further his interest as an Adult as he studied Phlebotomy, Pathology and Histology.
He also loved to sing and had a great singing voice.
Maurice married Yolanda Garcia on March 11,1986 and with that union, gained a son, Andres and two daughters, Sophia and Hope. Maurice and Yolanda added an addition to their family as well. Their daughter, Zipporah, was born a year later.
On June 28th, 1971 he dedicated his life to Jehovah God. It was his faith and belief in Jehovah that led to his astounding memory of scriptures. His love of God’s word, the Bible, helped sustain him through turbulent times. Maurice had a great personality. He was intelligent, charismatic, gregarious, and had a great sense of humor. He was also known for his love of hats, sunglasses and shoes.
Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Sr. and Dorothy, sister, Georgina and brothers, Darrell and Andre. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children: Andres (Johnnel), Sophia (Damani), Hope (Dwight) and Zipporah.
Grandchildren: Titus, Sierra, Tyson, Kalani, Quinton, Raymond, Amani and Alisaundra.
Great Grandchildren: Eli
Siblings: Roosevelt Jr, William, Timothy, Cynthia, Demetrius, Marcus and Mia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
