Gone But Never Forgotten

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beautiful soul. At the young age of 19, Alec Brandon Delafield lost his life on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Alec was a warrior in life. He was sweet and compassionate and loved his friends and family. He had a smile that could light up any room. He brought love, laughter and joy to all who knew him. Those who knew Alec, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. Alec was born on June 17, 2001 in Phoenix, Arizona.

He graduated from Paradise Valley High in 2019. Alec was an accomplished student and athlete. He was passionate about wrestling, taking medals in high school as well as mastering his skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He had a growing passion in health and nutrition, business marketing, photography, video editing, lighting and visual arts.

Alec will be missed every day by his father, Brandon, his mother, Jamie, his brothers Aidan and Landon, and his loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

We know Alec is in God's grace. Godspeed to a great man and friend - a man of men and his brother's keeper. He is gone, but never lost and never forgotten. We ask that his memory be honored as the man he was, as the fighter he was as the sweet boy he was. His bright light has gone out in the world but the impact of his life will last forever in all our hearts. There are not enough words to commemorate a lifetime of love, joy, brotherhood and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting bereavement donations that can be made at gf.me/u/zqv82k .

Thank you to all who knew and loved Alec. We appreciate all the love and condolences.

Your beautiful son touched more lives than you will ever know. On hearing of his passing we spoke with a former teammate of Alec’s, he told us about how they went to STATE together, we laughed as we shed tears. His teammate knew Alec to be a tenacious individual who inspired those around him. We are so devastated to know you must continue on this life now without your precious Alec. He continues to inspire and create laughter in those who had the pleasure to know him. It seems that those who have to greatest impact leave far to soon. You raised a fine young man.

I only got the chance to meet you once. Your beautiful smile and infectious joy filled the room and I enjoyed every moment I got to spend with you. I also enjoyed watching you grow from a wonderful boy into a young man from afar. Your light shined so bright I imagine God has some serious plans for you. With everyone we love and we lose too soon, I wish I would have taken more time to travel and get to know you more. I know that you are with everyone that loves you and misses you. Until we have the opportunity to meet in heaven, I hope that the happiness you brought to everyone that knew you can always be remembered and that your new life in heaven will be one that will bring peace and joy as well.

Our Fallen Warrior: Alec Delafield, An Angel

It’s time to come home, sweet Angel,
Your time on earth is through.
You gave us all your love and I know you felt ours too.

You held our hearts in your hands when we thought we were holding you.
You earned your wings on earth, sweet boy,
A warrior through and through.

Just a few steps further now as you cross thorough those Golden Gates.
You have not failed us, dear Angel, you fought and clearly gave your all.
God awaits you now, my dear, you have no need to fear.

So take your place in heaven now, among the angels you will soar.
In our hearts and in our souls, you will live forevermore.

****************

(Never to be forgotten, in His love and light, forever your Aunt Vanessa, until we meet again little one.)

I remember Alec as a happy and healthy child. Him and his brothers trained with my son at Strong Heart. I had the opportunity to rolled and drilled with him too. I am deeply saddened by his death. He will not be forgotten. Rest in paradise champ.

Alec, I will forever keep you in my heart! I couldn’t have asked for a better athlete to coach in the few years we had together. It was because of Alec’s leadership, kind heart, and strong work ethic was the real reason behind PV winning back to back sportsmanship awards at the Peoria tournament. Character like that is extremely rare! Other than Alec’s senior year at state, I will remember most the match at Peoria where Alec hit “Ghetto”! The only wrestler I’ve coached, since creating it, to both teach it to and hit in a match! The excitement Coach Butterfield, Alec, and I shared after that match will be something I will remember for the rest of my days. You became more than one of my athletes, but a real friend from the moments such as those. Thank you Alec for all that you’ve given me! I love you!

Gone too soon, this playful soul! With a knowing grin, and a devil may care smirk, he challenged me with a flex and nod towards the mat every time I walked into the wrestling room. Head slaps, Russian two-on-ones, and sweeping kicks, I recognized that the only way to achieve any type of offensive move on my part requires that I CHEAT in any way possible, just to survive with my dignity intact! He knew it just as well, and always had the grace to let me maintain some small dignity in front of the other wrestlers!
A mentor to my young son, Jack, I never had to worry what he was teaching, cajoling, and ultimately coaching! He became a part of Jack’s’ life that was positive, spirited, challenging him all the time to become better! Jack took the news of Alec’s passing harder than anything else that has come to him in his brief life, crying out his anguish over many long days and nights!
The Grant family recognizes the pain, and heartfelt loss at the passing of this absolutely amazing person, who touched all our lives! If there is anything like reincarnation, we hope that Alec comes back, occupying a warriors body, spirit and mind! Somewhere, somehow, he will continue to inspire young men to do their best, with a laugh and a grin, a flex and a smirk!

I love you and I miss you. I struggle to understand how or why you aren’t here with us physically but I know you’ll be with us forever. I imagine that you can see all of the people that are hurting right now.. our hearts are broken and it’s impossible to know how we can move forward without you here. I’m grateful for the memories that we had together, I just wish for more of them. I’ll always remember and cherish the beautiful young man that you became. I’m proud of the impact that you’ve made in so many people’s lives.

I’ll look after your dad, your mom and your brothers. I know you’ll look after us.

Loving you always,

Uncle Nay Nay

I remember rolling with Alec at Strongheart and remembering his shining personality. He was always so funny, kind, and willing to lend a hand. He was naturally athletic and a very hard worker. I was always so happy to hear how he won a match and what move he used to do it. I am deeply saddened by his death but I promise he will not be forgotten.

Alec and fellow wrestler Nic Grace had to wrestle against each other at a JV tournament their freshman year. I asked them to take it serious, but they were there to have fun. They went back and forth scoring in what I can only refer to as a “never ending switch” in which they ended up scoring about 30 points on purpose on each other. I wasn’t even mad, because I knew they had fun. That’s what it was all about and Alec was a fun loving individual that helped others to make the most out of their wrestling experience. I love you Alec, may you Rest In Peace.
