

Betty Jean Gomez passed away at home in the company of family and the everlasting presence of God on May 21st, 2026. Born Betty Jean Klapmeyer in Tucson, Arizona on July 2nd, 1942, the daughter of Harold, a construction worker and Mary, a homemaker, and sister to Mary Lou and William. Her family eventually moved to Phoenix when she was still young and she graduated from Phoenix Union High School, class of 1960.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William and by her husband and love of her life, Bob as well as her beloved son, Bobby. She is survived by her sister Mary Lou (Miller) of California. Betty will be greatly missed by her sons Dan and Donal and her grandsons Garrett and Brandon. She took great joy in spending time with family, extended family, Godchildren, and many, many close friends.
Betty was first and foremost a loving wife, a wonderful Mother and overall great person. Betty enjoyed life to the fullest and established great relationships with friends over the years, providing emotional support to many of them in their time of need. She was a very active and involved individual. She worked as a bookkeeper running her husband’s architectural firm, ran a daycare center out of the home and enjoyed various arts and crafts over the years, including macrame, needleworking and scrapbooking. She began a career later in life working with the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Agency. She was very proud of her career and was recognized and awarded for her work and dedication to the State or Arizona. Betty, along with her husband, was a member of the Elk’s Club #335 in Phoenix, Arizona and created lifelong friendships with many fellow members along the way.
Services will be held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road in Phoenix, Arizona on June 26th, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Celebration of life to follow at 1:00 PM.
