Betty Lou Metzendorf, 84, was born in Phoenix, Arizona on February 10, 1942, and passed away on September 21, 2026. A lifelong Arizona woman who resided in Glendale, she carried with her the steady warmth of home—rooted in family, shaped by simple joys, and brightened by a sense of humor that never seemed to run out of steam.
In her early years, Betty Lou spent much of her childhood on the Sanders Farm with her Grandmother in Buckeye, Arizona. Those beginnings helped form the gentle, patient spirit so many came to rely on—someone who could be quietly thoughtful one moment and make you laugh the next, often with the kind of honest, down-to-earth wit that made life feel lighter. She attended Carl Hayden High School and graduated with the Class of 1959.
Betty Lou worked as a bank teller at First Interstate Bank of Arizona as well as Wells Fargo Bank. She approached her work with the same kind-hearted care she gave to everyone around her—steady, compassionate, and unfailingly considerate. But what she loved most was spending precious time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She once said she wanted 12 children like her grandmother, but when they started coming two at a time, she changed her mind—LOL. That was Betty Lou: selfless in the ways that mattered, generous with her love, and always ready with a perfectly timed punchline.
Betty Lou had 4 children, 2 of which are twins. She has 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren—each one touched by her beloved presence, her gentle guidance, and the quiet goodness she gave without ever making a show of it.
She also knew how to have fun. Betty Lou loved to bowl and was very good at it—so good, in fact, that she had a whole bookshelf of trophies from bowling. She loved to go camping and fishing, though someone else would have to take it off the hook—LOL. And she loved to gamble, always seeming to be lucky at it, as if fortune simply enjoyed her company as much as everyone else did.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary Funeral Chapel at 719 North 27th Ave, Phoenix, Arizona on November 6, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Committal Service to be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm.
