

Beverly Ray Coope died on August 31, 2017 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Robert L. Coope of Phoenix, AZ; son Robert R. Coope and spouse Laurie of Magnolia, Delaware; son Gordon Coope and spouse Carolyn of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter Katharine Dahl and spouse John of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Byron, Katana, Erik, Jack, Nick and Ellie; sister, Dorothy Marengo of Wilmington, Delaware; brother, Herbert Ray and spouse Sherri of Chenango Forks, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Mabel Ray and brother-in-law Kenney Marengo.
Beverly was born in Binghamton, New York on August 23, 1929. She attended and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1952. Beverly also attended classes at University of Arizona where she met her husband Bob Coope. She attended Stanford University where she received a masters degree in speech pathology and audiology. She practiced speech therapy at Gompers in Phoenix. Working with speech-impaired patients, she was among the first local females in this profession.
Beverly was a loving and devoted mother who stressed the importance of education to her children, and was a patron to several universities. She was an active and involved member of the First Congregational Church. Her service to the community included outreach to the sick, elderly and less fortunate. Beverly had a love of the arts, travel and foreign cultures.
Services will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 5th at the First Congregational Church (UCC), 1407 N. Second Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004.
