Beverly Kay Johnson

Beverly Kay Johnson, 74 passed away to be with our Lord on November 22, 2013. The only daughter of Burnett and Leona Wood, Beverly was born February 26, 1939 in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. She met sons Bobby and Barry and her Mom and Dad in Heaven. Beverly met the man of her dreams and married Dr. Alvin “Al” Charles Johnson Jr. in 1972. She is survived by 5 children (Bill, Brad, Mike, Eileen, Jennifer & Chuck), 23 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren. While she had many interests and hobbies, such as Daughters of the American Revolution, bowling and bridge clubs, her main focus was on nurturing her family. A consummate homemaker and mother, she made sure her husband and family were always taken care of. Looking for something new and different, Beverly, Al and the family moved to Tempe, Az in 1972. Upon arriving to Tempe, Beverly became active in Politics. A rather spirited woman, she was involved in Republican politics, working with several candidates to better our world. An avid Bridge player, she organized a weekly game with her many, many friends. We can still hear her cackling as she would win a hand and many a game. With sons, sometimes issues at school would arise but you could always count on Beverly to be her sons corner. Beverly’s family was her pride and joy, and she would go to great lengths to support all of her children. She rarely missed football or baseball games or the music recitals and school plays. She encouraged everyone in the family to excel in academics as well. An avid reader, in her free time, you could always find Beverly reading a book. Strong willed, loving and compassionate, Beverly was the centerpiece of her family and loved by all who knew her. Viewing will be held Friday from 5-8pm at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ 85282. Interment will be Saturday morning at 11:00am at the Valley of the Sun Mortuary & Cemetery, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler, AZ 85248 followed by A Celebration of Life which will be held at the LDS Church, located at 2707 S. College Avenue, Tempe, AZ 85782.
