

Carl passed away on January 18, 2017 surrounded by loving family. He was born and raised in Phoenix. During his younger years, Carl was active in his church, enjoyed working at his relative’s horse ranch, was on the first survey crew on Schnebly Hill Road near Sedona, and as an Eagle Scout, helped build the R bar C Scout Ranch near Payson. After graduating from Phoenix Union High School, and attending one semester at Phoenix College, he honorably served in the Navy during the Korean War. He then earned his teaching degrees from ASU. He taught Special Education, and coached football, in the Phoenix Union High School District, and served a term as President of the Maricopa Urban Teacher’s Association. Always active, after his teaching career, he pursued several entrepreneurial interests, and later worked part time security positions. He finally “retired” at age 81. Carl always enjoyed getting together with family and friends, attending sporting events, and trips to Northern Arizona.
He is preceded in death by parents Ellwood and Grace Orth and older brothers Ellwood, Fred, Robert, and John Orth.
He is survived by cherished wife Nancy of 60 years, son Carl “Bob”, daughter Beth, and grandson Brian (currently in the Navy following his Grandpa’s footsteps) Orth, all of Phoenix, and sister Betty Morrison of Safford AZ, as well as 14 nieces and nephews.
Carl was an avid outdoorsman, and long time officer in the Ray Harvey Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. He was a loving and supportive influence to family and friends, lived for sharing great experiences, and taught us all so much. He will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation/viewing Thurs. the 26th from 4-6 PM, followed by a Memorial Service, at Advantage Funeral Home, 6901 W Indian School Rd, Phx.
Graveside Service Friday the 27th at 11 AM at Greenwood Cemetery, 2300 W Van Buren, Phx.
