Carol Gin (Szeto Woon Kau) was born in Guangzhou (Canton), China on May 4, 1940 as the 5th child of parents Szeto Shu Yin and Yee Shui Yee.
Her childhood was difficult, growing up during the dark times of the Second Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Communist Revolution. As a young adult, Carol moved to Hong Kong to attend college, studying to become a teacher.
Carol married William Gin, her husband of 51 years, in 1962, emigrated from Hong Kong to Glendale, Arizona in 1963, and became a US citizen in 1968. She was a homemaker, worked the family grocery store (James Market) with William and his parents, earned her Associate Degree, and worked in the banking and IT industries.
Her family was her greatest joy. She always checked in with her adult children to make sure they were OK. Throughout her life, she sacrificed so that her kids and grandkids would have better lives than she did.
Carol passed away peacefully on June 27, 2024 at Hospice of the Valley at Ryan House in Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived and dearly missed by sons Gary, Terry, and Jerry; daughters-in-law Nancy, Stacey, and Anita; grandchildren Whim, Thomas, Andrew, Julianna, Taylor, Jackson, Morgan, and Jadyn; and great grandson Nico.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Carol’s name to Hospice of the Valley at Ryan House (https://hov.org/donate/), whose caregivers treated Carol like family in her last days and to whom the family is forever grateful.
