Charles was a first class "fella".  He will be missed by his family and friends.

Donna and I were great friends in high school.  All she could talk about was this wonderful handsome man she had met at Sears in Santa Barbara....Chuck Davis.  I don't recall her ever having any other boyriends.  Chuck was such a nice guy. sense of humor.  Always smiling.  Always seemed to be non stressed.  I did not know he died until today.  My heart goes out to Nicole, Donald and Steve.  Rochelle Ebert Lavoie, Chino Hills California.

RIP Chuck. One great human being whom I knew with in the little interaction I had with him.

Loved the way you always had a smile. Loved the way you always respected diversity. Loved the way you supported Barb. Loved the way you loved life. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Chuck lived just down the street from me from kindergarted through HS. He was my best friend through grade school. I remember his mom and mine runnung Cub Scouts in his basement. It was in his basement when we learned that George Reeves (TV's Superman) had died. 

During High School we drifted apart some, but he visited me 30 years ago, and last year we visited about 2 hours when he was in the Albany/Delmar NY area. He came to the area regualrly to visit his 80+ year old brother in Mass. (Interestingly, I found out his brother passed away a few weeks before him.) He spoke a lot about all the plans he had with Barbara. We made plans to visit longer the next time he was up, which, sadly, I think never came to pass. 

Another interesting note: The house where Chuck grew up was previously owned by Eva Marie Saint's parents when Eva was attending Bethlehem High School a year ahead of my mother. And the house now belongs to my brother.

My brother-in-law, Chuck was very personable and could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere. We both enjoyed the movies and would usually view one together whenever I visited. We also shared a love for ice cream.

I recall Chuck starting off his mornings reading the daily newspaper in one hand and eating his breakfast with the other.

I am grateful he came into my sister's life filling it with a deep love, joy of life with adventures they'd embark on together. 

I can still picture their wedding reception when they danced to the song,'Wild Thing'. I am saddened by such a loss to our family. He will truly be missed. 

It has been said that each life is a song so when someone we love departs, in memory we find their song plays on within the hearts of those they leave behind.

Chuck, your song plays on and you can bet it is Rock and Roll!

Just hours before the first time I met Chuck my mom and I got into a huge fight over clothes. I lived in Tucson at the time and only brought minimal clothing to Phoenix for the show we were going to see. Mom and I had words with one another and that put me in pretty bad mood. Needless to say that mood carried into the whole evening giving Chuck the cold shoulder. 

He didn't say much to me that night either but I've found over the past 14 years he had never held a grudge on me for the way I treated him. That ugly first impression didn't reek havoc on my relationship with him and I've always found him to be a kind and forgiving person. 

Thank you Chuck for being such a great addition to my family and for all of the love you gave my mom. She adored you and she will miss you terribly. We all will miss you! Love you Chuck....

I have many fond memories of Chuck.  He was a kind person, always supportive and full of encouraging words.  I will miss his sense of humor and heart-warming personality.  Many of my memories of Chuck include his love for music, movies and light rail trips.

Chuck was like a brother to me.  We met Aug 1969 at Sears in San Bernardino, Ca.  We both went thru the Sears College training program.  He got promoted first to children's clothing and I got the paint dept.  

We started family night volleyball and it was so successful we had two courts going and a lot of family's came out with their kids, even baby's in portable cribs.  

Chuck lived in Crestline up in the San Bernardino and his weekend parties were legendary.  I went thru a divorce and live up there for a few months.  My kids were always welcome on the weekend and from then on they called him Uncle Chuck.

Chuck was promoted to Santa Barbara Sears. We kept in touch but didn't see each other much.

He soon got a job as a district manager with Motel 6 and we visited him a few times there. One visit in particular the "guys" Chuck, me, Steve and Don (the four amigos) went down to the beach while the girls slept in.  We walked down the beach into a nude beach.  Chuck swears he did not know it was there.  We walked back and into the California college sorority beach volleyball tournament which we watch waiting for the ladies.  Of course we told our ladies that it was horrible until they showed up. 

We did talk a lot during the years but Chuck moved to Atlanta and Chicago.  He seemed to adopt all the pro sports teams in the are he lived in IF they were winning so I always called him a "homer".  

We had many "time share" vacations and went snow skiing many times is Mammouth Lakes, Ca., and Beaver Creek, Colo.  Chuck and his family spent a week at our time share in Kuai and I remember that Don got car sick trying to see the canyon and Nikki almost got bit by her horse while horse back riding on the beach.

Two things that were restated over and over during Chuck's service was that--

1) When one of my single friends were with Chuck and myself they didn't feel like a third wheel; he made them feel welcomed and an equal.
2) Anyone of my friends that met Chuck became his friend as well.  He was very likable and could talk to anyone.

He was a husband to be proud of.

When I think of Charles "chuck" I remember a mustache, a smile, honesty, a music lover, and a hard working father. Charles Davis was the dad I never had, but the sweet dad to me I needed at some of my neediest childhood moments. Davis is a strong name and my oldest son was given the middle name Davis for the strength and when I say it I recall chuck and the good person he was. I loved most that he was a dreamer even as an adult so when his daughter Nikki and I created dreams he never squashed them but simply cheered us on in his silent but loving way. Chuck you will be missed and everyone who crossed your path was blessed to know you.

In Memory of Chuck Davis

I knew Chuck in the way a neighborhood kid might, as the father of my best friend.  I knew him as the dad who knew so much about music, that at 14 years old I probably would have sworn up and down that he was a radio DJ.  He had a raucous laugh that seemed always to have a hint of some private joke attached to it and knew so much about the world I tended to listen when he talked.  He was the quintessential good-time dad, happy to have a cold beer, some good music, and in need of adult conversation. 

There are a lot of random memories that come back to me now, but what I can't seem to let go of is how Chuck always made me feel like I was welcome in his home.  Maybe this is a normal thing for some people, but in my life it was special.  I didn't even feel welcome in my own house, so it was a strange gift to be so easily included.  In my senior year I was floundering to keep my head above water and I needed a place to live temporarily until I turned 18 and could get my own apartment.  Chuck let me move in to his house where I shared a room with Nikki. 

One day while I was standing in the kitchen alone, he walked in and I asked him if it was okay if I had some cereal.  He stopped walking and firmly told me that I didn't have to ask, I could eat whatever was in the kitchen, that there was plenty.  He looked me in the eye when he said it, waiting for me to acknowledge that I understood.  It was maybe the only moment I ever had with Chuck that felt still and serious. 

I don't know what he knew about my previous home life or even how he really saw me, this lost kid who showed up at odd times, but in that one moment I felt like he wanted me to know it was okay.  That I would be okay.  It was maybe a simple thing.  I can't tell you how many times I have told guests in my home to help themselves.  But to me it was unfathomably generous.  My best friend's dad not only said I could live in his house for a couple months, rent free, but he fed me too.  I was just one of the kids who lived in his house and I was welcome to relax.  It may have been the first place I lived as a kid that I could relax. 

Over the next decade Chuck became a natural part of my extended family. The baby shower for my son was hosted at his condo clubhouse, I have a Christmas picture of my daughter wrapped up in the rug he had next to his arcadia door, and I think the only way I have seen every single Disney Pixar short is because he'd put the DVD collection on for my kids when we'd visit.  Without ever making a big deal about it, Chuck kind of adopted me into his fold.  I can't express how grateful I am to have known him.  I will miss him.

As a lost foreigner in our beautiful nation, I always wondered why America is the most beautiful country in the world. Yes we, Americans, have breathtaking natural wonders and incredible man-made monuments. Yes We, Americans, enjoy the protection of a beautifully written constitution and we all have basic freedom 
and rights that many people in the world fight and die or. But this is not why America is the most beautiful country in the world. America is the most beautiful country in the world because of its people, and someone like Chuck Davis embodied the true beauty of the American nation. Chuck was an amazing and generous son, father, husband, family member, colleague, friend, etc....but most 
of all he was a great American man who always stood up for what was right and 
just. Chuck, You have welcomed people like me or Sindu in your house and helped us strangers, understand the beauty of the American nation. From the thousands of people that you have touched and helped all throughout your life: thank you Chuck for showing us what a great American man is. You can now fly away in your highly powered Nascar boat and be proud of yourself, you have been a very brave American Hero who will be dearly missed.

Thank you Chuck for a lifetime full of memories in just a short span of the 9 years we knew each other. Anyone who met Chuck for more than just a few minutes knew he was interested in who you were as a person, what your pursuits were and he could easily find common ground on which to meet you. With every question he asked, I always knew Chuck was interested in who I was as a person and what was important to me. He typified relaxed, laid back, comfortable and always had a warm smile, handshake or hug for anyone in the room. He always made me feel comfortable in his home and it was always enjoyable to have him make himself at home in ours. It was clear there was no distance too far for Chuck to travel for those he loved. Is this not the love the Christ has borne in our hearts? Going the extra distance without ever having to be compelled to do so. I am no doubt positive that anyone who ever received anything from Chuck was not also keenly aware that what he did, he did out of love in his heart, willingness and joy. 

From the first day I met him until the last day I was honored to pray for him, Chuck was dear to my heart. We mourn because we lost a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, a Brother, and a friend.  We mourn because of the pain we feel, but our mourning in this life will be turned to joy in eternal life.  We have this promise of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."  

Lord, thank you for my dear brother Chuck. We thank you for your mercy and more importantly we thank you for the gift of eternal life that you grant. We all wait with expectant hope for the coming for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Have mercy upon Chuck and grant him a rich entrance into your glorious kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I got a call that Chuck and Barb were in Lake Havasu for a weekend Jazz festival in their trailer so I went up for the day and ended up sleeping in the back of Chucks pick up.  Lousy music but lots of fun with Chuck and Barb.

San Felipe.  Had many wonderful trips with Chuck after my wife died and it was great therapy.  I think Barb was only there once BUT when she wasn't, we had our "LIST" LOL. How beautiful and peaceful on the Sea of Cortez.  There were so many birds all the time, especially pelicans, as many as 60 at a time flying over so close it felt like you could touch them.

There was a sick seal on the beach for about 3 days and then he was gone.  I was always up about 5:30 for the sunrise and Chuck usually slept in till around 9am.  One morning the seal was gone so I told them that I saw the seal go into the water and a shark got it.  He did believe me for a few minutes.

One of the dune buggy trips was about 10 Km north on the beach where we passed about 50 egrets standing about 20 yards apart in about afoot of water just looking for food. It was amazing.  About another mile past the egrets were about 30,000 grunion on the beach.  I had Chuck to stop so he could hear me and I said "Do you want to go back and tell the egrets that they are up here"? He said, "good idea" and turned the dune buggy back south to go tell them until he realized what he was doing.  That is the funniest thing I remember but there were so many over the years and he is forever in my heart.

Chuck was the man who taught me how to trust and how to live.  He cherished me and was proud of me; yet he always directed me in the right direction if I went astray.  I have no clue how I am to continue without him but I promise I will try.  I know he will be my angel now as he had been before.

Barb, I am feeling sad for your loss but I am also smiling through my tears remembering all of the emails & facebook alerts that I received about what you two were doing together.  I am so very happy that he came into your life; you two were such a great couple.  I know the memories will be joyous.  For now, my love & hugs are being sent across the miles to you.

Sindu and I will always cherish our memories of Chuck. He means a lot to our family and will always remain our hero. He always stood by us like a rock and made sure we were comfortable during our stay in Phoenix. He and Barb are our role models and his demise is a huge loss for our family. Barb, we love you and are a phone call away.

Chuck became a part of our extended family with Donna's family. They were our surrogate family when we moved to the Santa Barbara area. We go back with Chuck to his days at Sears and then Motel 6 through his move to Phoenix. Becky and I send our condolences in this loss to us all.

It never truly occurred to me how much Chuck meant to me and my family.  He passing has hit me harder than I ever expected.  My daughter adored him more than anything I've ever seen and knowing that she will never see him again brings terrible sadness.  My family and many others will truly miss what a wonderful person he was.  We love you Chuck.

I am sorry for your loss. Mr. Charles seemed to have been a man that greatly loved life, family, and friends. May the God of creation be with you during these difficult times.

Chuck will be terribly missed.  His friendship was truly treasured by all members of my family, and he will be fondly remembered forever.  Heartfelt sorrow and condolences to his family.

Chuck was a really great guy and a loving father and husband.  I will miss him. My condolences to Barb and the family.
