Born on January 29, 1946, in Tell City, Indiana, Charlotte grew up in a warm, loving household. As the big sister to four siblings—three brothers and one sister—she naturally embraced a maternal role early in life, guiding and caring for her younger siblings with a deeply compassionate spirit. Her childhood was filled with joyful summers spent swimming and sharing picnics with her beloved cousins. Being the oldest, her protective and nurturing care extended throughout her life, including welcoming her two youngest siblings into her own home for special summer visits when they were younger.
That early calling to care for others carried beautifully into her professional life, where she dedicated herself to healing as a Registered Nurse (RN). She fulfilled her duties with grace, skill, and enduring kindness.
At home, Charlotte was the true heart of her family. She was married for 51 wonderful years to the love of her life, Sam Barnes. Together, they built a life rooted in partnership, laughter, and devotion.
Charlotte’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud and loving mother of three children: Samuel Barnes Jr., Shawndra Barnes, and Sonya Paterno. Her legacy of love continued to grow across generations, and she leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and even more adored great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense happiness to her life.
Charlotte’s warmth, dedication to helping others, and fierce love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
