Around 1947 she moved to Tolleson, AZ to live with her aunt due to health concerns. She attended school to become a nurse aide and began to build her career working at the local hospitals. Constance would always work multiple jobs. In addition to her position in the medical field, she would also take on the role of a housekeeper as well as care for the family’s children; The Pence’s, The Tallakson’s, The Sabokta’s, and The Evan’s. The Tallakson children always had a special place in her heart. The Evan’s family became a second family to Constance and her family. They were always there for her, through the tough times and the best times.
Constance was St Mary's parishioner since the 1950's and was known by many names through the years of making new friends and growing her family (Connie, Nana, Little Nana, The Nana, and Nana Connie). In 1970 Constance found her forever job at Good Samaritan Hospital. She would say, “part of the joy in her life was work.” Even after working long hours at the hospital Constance made sure to be present in her grandchildren’s lives.
She had the biggest heart and truly enjoyed caring for those she loved and lucky patients that were under her care. It was bittersweet when it came time for her to leave the job she had loved so much. Not by choice, at age 86 she had to retire. She would always say “if they would let me, I would work.”
The next and last chapters of her life she spent making thousands of memories and capturing moments with her family and the many friends that became family. She loved traveling whether it be in the air, on the road, or on the sea as long as she had her crochet hook and her yarn bag. She loved creating; she knitted, crocheted, sewed, quilted, embroidered, and love from her craft showed through her work. She had said “if you could do hand work, you were a lady” and Constance was, a strong, loving, and genuinely caring lady to the very end.
