September 7, 1940 – July 28, 2025
David Thomas Foster was born on September 7, 1940, in Monongalia County, West Virginia, to Earl Fenton and Edith Viola Knight Foster. The longtime Litchfield Park, Arizona, resident passed away on July 28, 2025.
Dave moved to Arizona when he was 19 and joined Sheet Metal Local 359 where he was a member in good standing for more than 60 years. He was involved in the installation of HVAC systems in schools, hospitals and other commercial buildings throughout Arizona.
He married Kathi Tscharner McNally in 1981 and they shared nearly 44 years together. Single parents, they met at a Little League event in which their boys were participating, began dating and were soon a blended family with five young children. Dave and Kathi enjoyed traveling, particularly ocean cruises, and were able to include their children and grandchildren on some of their numerous adventures. Their last big road trip was to Yellowstone National Park where 50 years earlier the teenage Kathi had a summer job. Always a good sport, Dave chauffeured Kathi to Laughlin so she could enjoy playing the slots and he liked watching the action on the river.
Dave was the neighborhood handyman, lending a hand to many home improvement and repair projects. He was a skilled craftsperson and was generous with his time helping family members with their projects as well. For years he hung the Christmas decorations and lights at the church. It was hard to keep him off a ladder!
Dave is survived by his wife Kathi and their children Terri Wyatt, Jerry Foster, Sean McNally (Candice), Chris McNally and Heather Liebenow.
He lived for his grandchildren: Melissa Shrum, Ben McNally, Jack McNally, Taylor McNally, Alex Foster, Aidan Foster and Amelia Liebenow. He also leaves behind two great grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Dave was one of 11 children and is survived by his brothers Jim Foster (Lynn) and Roger Foster (Judy) and sisters Norma Floccari and Dianne Gildersleeve (Herb).
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Harry Foster and Francis Foster, and his sisters Marketa Cantoni, Betty Kelley, Colleen Groves, and Patty Smith.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, in the chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85009, with burial to follow. Pastor Dave Bolte of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, 240 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85013.
