David Rene Moreno

February 26, 1968January 17, 2021

Our sweet David Moreno, pastor, husband, son, brother, Navy Nuke Vet and friend, at the age of 52, on Jan. 17, 2021, went to be with Jesus. He was kind and loving to the core; would give the shirt off his back to anyone or fix your sink or anything else in or around your house. Worked hard all his life and gave his best. He was a prayer warrior and believed in serving others and was a TRUE Christian beacon of light for his family and all of us. He was born in Phoenix, AZ to Abiano & Norma Moreno. He played football and loved wrestling at Phoenix Christian High and graduated from Edinburg High in Texas. At 18, he became a NAVY man, entered the Nuclear program in Florida, NY, and was stationed in Virginia Beach, VA on the USS Virginia CGN-38; he managed the nuclear plant and fought in the Iraq War. He received a Nat'l Defense Service Medal, two bronze stars and two meritorious awards. On Dec. 20, 1991, while on leave, he met his future wife Angela, helped her with her classroom Christmas party. They were married in April of 1993. In the fall of 1998, he entered Phx First Pastor’s College and received his first pastoral position at Merced First Assembly of God church in Merced, CA. He also pastored in several churches in Sierra Vista before joining Mountain View Assembly of God church. David is survived by his loving spouse of 27 years, Angela Moreno; his parents Abiano & Norma; his brothers Victor & Anthony and his sister Sophia; and some animals. Committal service with Military honors will be held at a later date at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024. In lieu of flowers, cards & gifts to help with funeral costs and donations can be given to Mountain View Assembly of God church, 102 N. Colombo Ave, Sierra Vista, AZ, 85635, 520-458-0487, just mention ‘David Moreno Memorial’.

Angela, I am so sad for you.... may your happy memories together bring you comfort. I remember David as someone we could always count on when we needed something for an activity, especially with children and music! And always with an infectious smile:) Hugs...

I was blessed to officiate David R. Moreno’s military honors. He is resting at the National Memorial Shrine for all service members. We mourn for the loss of this comrade, a Navy Service Member, husband, most of all his family and a Pastor. I remember the good times as my sister Mary mentioned at Iglesias Bautista Central. David was called back to fight the enemy, with a powerful weapon the BIBLE. His devotion to the word saved many souls, and mentored many before our Father took him. My prayers go out to the Wife Angela, Mom Norma, Dad Abraham, Sister Sophie, and Brothers Victor and Anthony.

Have many great memories of David when we were growing up in church at I.B.C. I feel for our family Moreno and even though I never saw David again I love that he was a man of God and had left such a great testimony. Prayers for his wife and Moreno family and may God give each of you strength during this heart aching time.

I remember David as a kind, Godly Shipmate. I served with him on the USS Virginia. David had a great impact for our Lord with other sailors.

I am so blessed to have known and worked with Pastor David at Merced First Assembly. He was a great friend and example for everyone who had the privilege to know him. My heart goes out to his wife Angela and his entire family. May the Peace of God be with you though this difficult time.
David, you will be missed.

I am so sad to hear of David's passing and my prayers go out to Angela and David's entire family. I attended Phoenix First Pastor's College with David and found him to be a gentlemen in every sense of the word. He was kind, caring, well spoken, he loved the Lord and was just a good man who I enjoyed being around. Though we've only had a few facebook hello's over the years, my memories of David will always be that I was blessed to have known him. I am reminded of the words: "Well done good and faithful servant" and pleased to know David has received his eternal reward!

David was always a joy to speak with on the phone and helped me learn a lot when we worked on escalated issues. He always put others first even if it meant long days of work. Our TWN family will miss him. Sending love and prayers to his family.
