January 7, 1943July 23, 2013

OCHOA, DAVID M. 1943-2013. David passed away on July 23, 2013 at age 70 in El Paso, TX. David was born in San Diego and raised in the beautiful Verde Valley of Arizona. He was a long time resident of Phoenix, AZ and a graduate of Arizona State University and the University of Arizona College of Law. He served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam prior to commencing his law career. He practiced law for more than thirty-five years during which he was a member of the Federal Public Defender’s Office as well as a Superior Court Judge. He was hard working, diligent, and extremely honest in all that he did. He found much enjoyment in helping others in time of need whether it be family members, a Phoenix Youth or a child in a foreign country. David was a dutiful and thoughtful nephew, a caring husband and a loving father. He is survived by his daughters Alison Grootveld and Jennifer Evers, his wife Grace and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. He was a stoic warrior in the worst of times and a joy-filled boy in the best of times. David will be deeply missed and remembered with love. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ. Please visit to leave online condolences for the family.

David was my best friend through most of grade school and high school in Cottonwood, Az. He and I were in constant contact for the first 10 years after college, but we lost that contact. I am so sorry for the loss of him and send Grace and his family condolences for their loss (my wife and I met Grace and Alison in Phoenix many years ago at their home.)
Goodbye old friend,

Dave was a kind, diligent, and dedicated lawyer and jurist. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. I was very saddened to hear of his passing.

David's counsel will be missed. I valued his opinions, and sought them often whenever I encountered him at the courthouse. I will miss our discussions and his always friendly smile. I am sorry for your loss.
