Delores Mary Jane (Do) Lahaie, 86, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Edward F. (Ed) Lahaie, her father and mother, Gjuro and Martha Romcevic and sister Helen, age 7.
Delores was born on November 22, 1929 in Gary, Indiana. She graduated from Lew Wallace High School in 1948 and ranked 3rd in her class. She graduated in 3 ½ years and was superior at shorthand and typed 140 words a minute. She was also a member of the National Honor Society along with being a member of the Auditorium Council. Delores attended Indiana University Bloomington for two years. In June of 1950, she married Edward F. Lahaie at St. Marks Church in Gary, Indiana. Delores and Edward moved to Phoenix in December of 1950. She, along with her husband, were two of the founding members of SS. Simon & Jude Parish. She volunteered for several years at the annual Fall Festivals. Along with being a mother and homemaker, she was a Cub Scout mother. In 1968, she went to work for several companies in the Valley including Mountain Bell Telephone Company and Valley National Bank. She retired from Arizona Department of Health Services with 23 years of service as an Administrative Assistant III to the Director. Her hobbies included reading, watching Chicago Cubs and Diamondbacks baseball games along with attending ASU Sun Devil football games with her sister Dorothy, which she loved.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses; Joan (Rick) Lahaie-Beren, Larry (Sandy), Patrick (Gina) and Barbara Lahaie-Jones, her eight grandchildren; Richard (Kelsey) Lahaie, Stephanie Lahaie, Patrick (fiancé-Amber) Lahaie, Brandon Jones, Daniel Jones, Amber Beren, Aimee Beren, Brandon Beren and her first great-grandson, George Edward Lahaie. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Lahaie, of Glendale, her nephew Michael Lahaie, his wife Christine and great-niece Jacie Lahaie; her sister-in-law Dorothy Lahaie of Mesa, niece Victoria Corrigan of Scottsdale and nephew James Lahaie of Mesa, her sister-in-law Evelyn Lahaie of Valparaiso, Indiana and many, many relatives in the Chicago area.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM, Friday, September 9, 2016 at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuaries Bethany Chapel, 710 W Bethany Home Rd, Phoenix, AZ. 85013. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at SS. SSimon & Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Avenue. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery 6450 W. Northern Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301.
