Dixie was born March 5, 1938 in Versailles, Missouri to Ina and Edmund Deppeler. She married her husband, Jack, on November 30, 1959. The couple moved to France and had their first two children Joel and Jeff. After returning to the United States and moving several different times they returned to Jack’s hometown of Volga, South Dakota and had their next two children Jennifer and Jon. In 1986 they moved to Arizona, where she remained until her death. Dixie made her career as a purchasing agent and safety officer for the Federal Government until her retirement. Dixie was loved by all who met her. Her kindness and generosity was extended not only to her family, but to everyone she met. Her children would often bring additional friends to Christmas that couldn’t be with their families for one reason or another and there were always presents for them as well. When you saw her smile it would light up your heart and you couldn’t help but smile as well. Dixie loved animals. She always had bird food out and loved to sit on her patio, sipping coffee and watching them come in to eat while listening to her wind chimes twinkle in the breeze. She loved her dogs Ebony and Patsy who sometimes got into scuffles on who got to cuddle closer to her when she slept and of course there were always Christmas presents for them as well. Dixie was a talented artist who loved to draw and paint which she taught her children to do as well during the cold winters of South Dakota. Dixie loved to play cards. Her favorite games were buck, pitch and pinochle. She and her husband Jack would play Buck every morning while having coffee. She would try to keep a deck of cards in her purse when there was any extended wait and she could play with Jack or her children. The family purchased a farm in Theodosia, Missouri where she and Jack spent many summers. All of their children and many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren would join them there for a week or two to spend time swimming in the lake, kayaking, fishing and shooting. At night, they would sit on the deck listening to music, dancing and singing into the wee hours of the morning. The stories of laughter, joy and kindness with Dixie are endless. The memories we have of her are priceless. The amount of love we have for Dixie is infinite. We are eternally grateful for every second we were able to spend with such a kind, gentle, funny, intelligent, talented, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
