Dodie Dixon, age 86, of Phoenix, AZ was called home by her Lord and Savior to be reunited with her husband Norman early on January 14, 2021. She was born in Muskegon Heights, MI on May 13, 1934. Upon his return from the Korean War, she married Norman Dixon, who passed away in 2010. The family eventually moved to Denver, CO, followed by moves to Tucson AZ, back to Denver, CO, Muskegon, MI and eventually to Phoenix AZ where they remained. She was a devoted Christian; she and her husband together taught Bethel Bible and Crossways studies. She had a beautiful singing voice and graced many church choirs; she and her three sisters sang wonderful four-part harmonies.
She is survived by two sisters: Geraldine Ames (of Fruitport, MI), and Rosemary Krueger (of Mt. Pleasant, WI), son John Dixon (of Phoenix), four daughters: Peggy VandeVoorde (of Milan, MI), Pamela Miller (of Munday, TX), Penny Schmiege (of Avondale, AZ), Patience Hoag (of Phoenix), as well as fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Although her extended family is spread over ten states, they are a close and loving family, a testament to the love and influence of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to again express our profound appreciation to The North Star Care Home and Maria, Zeno and Danny, as well as their attentive staff. When Dolores came to them she was on hospice care with a very poor outlook. But with the excellent care and the love extended her, she stabilized and improved to the point where hospice was no longer needed. She eventually reached a state of health that the family had not seen in many years. God bless them.
The funeral service will be conducted at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 W Beardsley Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85027; (623) 434-7000. The service will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 with a viewing at 1:00pm and the funeral service at 2:00pm and will be live-streamed on the mortuary’s Facebook page.
