Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Burton Shannon. Married in 1943, they were best friends and companions, raising three children and living in various locations throughout the country, most recently in Sun City, Arizona.
Before marrying Burt, Dorothy attended Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas and graduated in 1942 with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in History. She was especially proud of the years she spent as an elementary school teacher.
After Burt's retirement, the couple moved to Arizona seeking out warm weather and sunshine. Dorothy was an excellent golfer and loved living in a place where she could play year-round. The pair also enjoyed frequent trips to Laughlin.
An avid Nebraska fan, Dorothy spent Saturdays in the Fall watching college football and cheering on her Cornhuskers. In recent years she enjoyed spending time with friends at Park Regency, sharing her strong faith with others during weekly Bible Study meetings.
Dorothy is survived by sisters Rachel Osborne and Esther Harrington, children Stan Shannon (Cheryl), Peggy Jones, and Mark Shannon (Anita), nine grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by friends and family from all around the country.
A celebration of her life is planned for Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Park Regency in Chandler, Arizona.
Arrangements under the direction of Carr-Tenney Mortuary, Tempe, AZ.
