After completing his bachelor’s degree, Duane worked for many years as a funeral director, a profession that reflected his deep compassion and ability to comfort others in times of loss. His professionalism, sincerity, and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone he served.
Duane is survived by his son Bryan Chambers, his wife Kendra, his daughter Jenna Schwieger, her husband Tom, his brother Terry Chambers, and his sister JoAnne Chambers, and six grandkids, all of whom loved him very much. His kindness, humor, and caring spirit will be remembered always. No services have been planned at this time.
Duane loved his family with all of his heart. He delighted in his kids, always supporting them in their sports and endeavors, cheering them on. He himself was a competitor and loved wrestling, playing pool, bowling, and fishing, especially with his longtime beloved girlfriend, Lanie.
His kids remember him being extremely loving towards them and singing and playing the guitar all through their childhood. He especially loved songs that told stories, such as “Leader of the Band,” by Dan Fogelberg.
Duane had a big heart. He struggled in his own life at times, and was able to have compassion on others in a special way. He would often tear up when he talked about someone he knew who was suffering. The last many years of his life, he opened his home to countless strangers who were homeless or just coming out of prison. He had a heart for people who had been forgotten and he shared all he had with them. He prayed relentlessly for people and tried to help anyone who came across his path to know and love his own Savior, Jesus.
Duane loved the Lord. Because we know that God does not look at our good deeds and sins to determine where we spend eternity, but only looks at whether a person had put his faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, we know that Duane was welcomed into Heaven, despite his sins and struggles.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16-17
Duane’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. His life was one of quiet strength, integrity, and compassion—qualities that continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
