Raised in a farming community, he excelled academically and was quarterback on his high school football team. After graduation, he proudly served in the Air Force, and eventually became a crew chief for the Strategic Air Command. After the service, he married Carole Ann Robison, and moved to Phoenix to work in the aerospace industry. Eventually he became a test lab supervisor for jet propulsion engines. He worked for the same company, which was later acquired by Honeywell, for 40 years.
It's no surprise that he could fix anything! He was also a great outdoorsman, and hiked extensively across Arizona and the Southwest. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Jeffries; his siblings, Bill Simpson, George Simpson, Louise Jones, and Mary Hollum; his first cousin, Fred Hester, as well as many more cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Earl's life will be on Monday, December 21, 2015, at 5:00 PM, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4735 North 19th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ, 85015.
