Edelmira Avena Cotto, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at her residence in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on November 2, 1939 to the late Guadalupe and Reyna (Ramos) Avena in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. After graduating from college Edelmira was employed as an Industrial Legal Secretary in Mexico. In California her most satisfying employment was at Southern California Orthopedic Institute where she worked for 15 years. Edelmira moved to Arizona and became a CNA where she worked for a number of years; then became an associate for Walmart where she worked for 18 years. Edelmira married her first love twice, Ramiro Miranda Perez in Chihuahua, Mexico. She was a long time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Edelmira enjoyed sewing, crocheting, dancing, and was an excellent cook. She is survived by her two loving children, Ray and Maria “Teri” Miranda; daughter in-law Eileen Miranda and five granddaughters, Desiree, Nicole, Michelle, Reina, and Deanna; two great granddaughters, Madeline "Maddie", and Sophia; and a great grandson, Sebastian, who is on the way; many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Ramiro and her longtime friend Rosario Pallares. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85022.
