Beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and wife. She leaves behind her brother, Willard Turner and sister-in-law Dolores Turner, son William Mason jr and daughter-in-law Susan Mason, her daughters Beverly Mason, Pamella Shadle and son-in-law Rick Shadle, Ginger Bacon and son-in-law Brian Bacon and grandchildren; Jennifer Sparkley,, Tiffany Mason, , Cassandra Mason, Judy Mason, Samantha Pomales, Bryan Mason-McCaw, Avery Faux. As well as many great-grandchildren.
Her great grandfather was a founding father of Salem OR. She was born in Toledo, Oregon in 1943 to Willard and Lavina Turner, the only daughter and baby of the family. She had two older brothers Willard and Ronald. They were dirt poor and mom said at one point they lived in an old railroad station converted to a house. She said the house shook when the trains went by. She said her family caught and sold crabs off the Oregon shore to survive. They made their way to Rocklin, California, where her
parents would live out their lives. Mom had polio when she was 10 and spent 3 months in the hospital. One result of her illness was her left foot's lost arch. When she would walk around without shoes on the bare floor, her foot would create a suction effect, and we would all laugh as she strolled across the room.
She went to Placer High School where she met her future husband William (Bill) Mason. She was a freshman and he was a senior. When she graduated, they married and soon after Bill enlisted in the military. Their first child Bill Mason Jr, was born in Auburn, CA. Then they relocated to a military base in Tucson, AZ where their second child, Beverly Mason was born. After military service, they moved to Phoenix, were Bill attended Southwestern University. Edith helped Bill make it through college, typing up all his homework papers. In Phoenix their daughters Pamella Shadle and Ginger Bacon were born. Edith's husband was an avid motorcyclist and she too learned to ride and had her own bike. One year the whole family biked from Phoenix to California on vacation.
She loved animals, raised rabbits with her lifelong friends David and Carol Baxter and raised and sold Dachshunds for years.
She was a devoted Christian and found her calling in service to the church. She always helped out and volunteered where she could. She was the Osborn Road Baptist Church's resident babysitter until they shuttered when she relocated to Palm croft with many of her fellow church members. During her years at Osborn Road she was involved with the missionary work and continued this service at Palm croft. She loved crafting items for the church and missionaries.
She will be greatly missed. She was generous and kindhearted and always willing to help a person in need. She drove her friends to church and doctor's visits when she could. Some of her kids called her “the little old church lady”. She helped people out to the very end with what she could.
