Ed graduated from Madera High School where he met the love of his life, Anna Fae Long Mann. Edward joined the Air Force shortly after graduating in 1963. Ed and Anna were married on March 26, 1965. He had taken a short leave for the wedding then returned to base in North Dakota. Anna finished high school and then joined him in North Dakota. They had two children, Marion Mercedes Mann Green and Rebecca Darlene Mann Medina.
Ed served two tours in the Air Force, three times in combat in Viet Nam, where he was wounded twice. He received many awards and decorations including a Purple Heart. After his military service he worked as a welder for a few years in Madera California, then moved to Reno Nevada and became a diesel truck mechanic at Model Dairy where he retired in 2010. In 2022, he moved to Tolleson, Arizona.
Military man, mechanic, boat captain, gun loving sharp-shooter, deer hunter, western shirt wearing, NASCAR fan (especially Dale Earnhardt). Ed was known by many titles. He loved guns and taught his daughters, granddaughters, family, friends (and anyone interested) in firearm safety and being confident with a gun. He was an avid deer hunter and had many trophies mounted on his walls. He attended many NASCAR races and watched hundreds more with family and friends. He loved going to the annual Family campout, driving the boat, and making the kids fly off the water tubes, taking the younger generations snipe hunting, and telling stories around the campfire.
Ed loved his family fiercely, encouraging his daughters, granddaughters, and nieces to be strong women and teaching nephews that they should respect the women in their lives. Through his example he taught his family to do things for others without expecting praise and to help when you can. He wasn’t afraid to ask the hard questions with love like “when are you going to straighten out your life?” and then help you to do it.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Anna Fae or as he called her “My Girl Anna” or “Granny”, his two daughters Marion Mercedes Mann Green (Michael Green) and Rebecca Darlene Mann Medina (Louie Medina); five granddaughters, Laure Ann Johnson, Brandy Lee Stewart (Daniel Stewart), Julie Ann Lindburg (David Lindburg), Rena Janette Schuck, and Jaden Cleo Wuelzer; and his beloved great-grandson Carter Emery “CJ” Johnson. He also leaves behind his beloved sister Judy Sadler of Mobile Alabama, and niece Tracey LaMon and her children, Matthew Reusch, Timothy Reusch, and Lauren Nowak.
Ed would be the first to tell you not to waste money on flowers; so, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, you make a donation to your local veteran’s nonprofit such as Wounded Warriors or Honor Flight.
