Chris Schoenleb was born April 10, 1934 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Elaine Gibson Schoenleb and Edwin A. Schoenleb. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Diane Horr. Chris spent most of his childhood in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He graduated Cuyahoga Falls High School as Valedictorian of his class and then attended Kenyon College. Chris graduating Magna Cum Laude from Kenyon in 1956 and took his first job with Proctor and Gamble as a brand manager which began his successful career as a marketing and advertising executive. The high point of Chris’s career was “Have It Your Way” campaign for Burger King, International that he launched in 1975 and it is still running today.
In November of 1995, Chris’s life changed forever when he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was told by Mayo Clinic that he had two years to live. While searching for healing his diagnosis was later changed to a crippling neurological disorder. However, several months later he was miraculously healed, and his journey forever changed him as he got to know God in a new and very personal way. Chris dedicated his “second life” to furthering God’s kingdom on Earth, and spent his time leading bible studies, launching a Stephen Ministry, serving on the elder board in his church as well as serving on the Phoenix Rescue Mission board. Plus, he also found time to mentor many young men. But what was most important to him was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anybody who knew Chris, knew how much he loved and adored his family.
Chris is survived by his wife, Joanne of 68 years and Daughters, Patricia Gordon , Barbara Golden and sons Bill, and Chris, Jr., their spouses, eight grandsons and one granddaughter plus his sister-in-law Deborah Maguire, and two nephews Douglas and David Horr.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider sending a donation to help support Chris’s two grandsons and/or their Christian ministries.
