Floyd Engquist, 77, of Phoenix Arizona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 due to complications from Covid-19 and chronic heart and lung disease.
Floyd was born to Elmer Emanual Engquist and Mary (O’Connell) Engquist on October 19, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Floyd graduated from Waukesha High School in 1964 and went on to attend the Apostolic Bible Institute (ABI) in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1967 where he earned a Bachelor of Art in Theology.
While completing his studies at the Apostolic Bible Institute, Floyd met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Bushong and they married on August 19, 1965 in Sullivan, Illinois. Floyd and Shirley pastored several small churches before founding the Bible Truth Center (later renamed Grace Tabernacle) in 1972 in the City of Janesville, Wisconsin, where they also raised their two sons, Doug and Darin. Floyd and Shirley retired as Senior Pastors in 1995.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Shirley and their two sons, Douglas Anthony Engquist and Darin Duane Engquist, all of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his siblings Richard, Ronald, Mary, and Elaine (Hogan), also of Phoenix, Arizona. He was blessed with six grandchildren, all surviving. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Engquist.
Floyd was a passionate, faith-filled pastor who truly loved everyone and believed the best for anyone with whom he came into contact. His ministry of word and music positively influenced the lives of many and his spirited sermons were a source of strength and encouragement to numerous people throughout the years.
Floyd preached and lived a message of love. From neighbors, to congregants,
to random strangers, anyone who knew Floyd would testify that he always made an effort to be uplifting and a source of encouragement. Floyd was known for always being willing to help anyone he could. He fiercely loved and was dedicated to his family, his faith and his ministry.
The greatest love of Floyd’s life, aside from God, was his wife Shirley. They had a storybook romance and would have been married 56 years on August 19th, 2021. He loved and cared for Shirley and was fully devoted to her happiness and well-being. They were best friends and loved being partners together both in life and in ministry.
Floyd’s Memorial Service will be held at CCV North Phoenix Campus 15025 N 19th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85023 on Thursday March 11, 2021. Visitation 12PM and Service 1PM.
