

Francisco L. Ruiz, Sr., 85, passed away January 12, 2021. A Phoenix native and Phoenix College graduate, he married his Phoenix Union High School sweetheart Virginia L. Ruiz at St. Mary's Basilica in 1959, after serving in the Army. Loved ones left behind are daughters Veronica Whittle (Ron), Yolanda Martinez (Tom Bourassa), Cecilia Rodriguez (Steve), son Frank Ruiz (Jennifer), brothers Armando and Andy Saldate and Eddie Ruiz, sister Judy Gilbert, 16 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He joins his wife Virginia, son Luke, mother Rosa Saldate, siblings Fili Rodriguez, Freddie and Charlie Saldate, Roy Davis, Jr. and beloved grandmother Rafaela Ybarra. He was a dedicated public servant and retired from the City of Phoenix after a long career in water production. He loved a good joke, baseball and hotdogs, enjoyed travel, the outdoors and reading. He was silly, loving, sustainable, and generous. Above all, he loved God and his family and demonstrated his care, support and devotion to them throughout his life. Visitation: Monday, February 1, 2021, 5:30-8:30 p.m. with Rosary from 6:30-7:00 p.m. at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Hm. Rd. Funeral Mass: Tuesday, February 2, 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
