Conviction:
Gayland Scott Garber was born on September 13, 1966, in Victoria, Texas. He was the oldest of three children born to Betty and Lloyd Garber. Gayland was not a member of a formal church, but he had God in his heart and had his convictions when it came to faith. Treat people with kindness, give all you can, keep dreams alive, and love animals.
Friendship:
Gayland moved to Arizona in the mid-1990’s with his best friend Mark Leinen. Those two were inseparable in their younger years. They were real brothers to each other. Gayland met his close friends Jim Dustan and Mortimer O’Conner through his friend Mark, along with a slew of other friends that he enjoyed hanging out with. There were countless stories of the good old days with Jesse, Shawn, and Hoss. He often spoke about the racing days (working on Shawn and Jesse’s car in the pit), NASCAR, and good times.
Family:
Gayland was married early in his life to Julie. They one daughter, Rachel who was born on May 1st. May 1st was always a hard day for him because he was unable to spend it with his daughter after his marriage to Julie ended. Later he married a woman named Jill. They did not have any children, but Gayland spoke of the kindness of her grandfather and brother Rob from time to time. In the year 2006 he met his current wife Andrea (Drea) at the Sky Harbor Airport where he was working for Mesa Airlines as a ramp supervisor outside on the ramp loading baggage for airplanes. The two were married on October 10, 2010, at 10:10 am. They always though the coding (binary) 1010101010 was funny so it was easy to remember. They did not have any children but did have many cats throughout the years. Gayland loved his family those by birth, marriage and friendship. There was no difference to him.
Learn for Life:
Gayland received his GED, funny enough the same day as Mark’s mother. He thought that was something special and a wonderful honor to share with her. He graduated from Paradise Valley Community College where he received an associate’s degree in general education and certificates as an LPN and PCT. He also received a certificate as a pharmacy technician from Rio Salado College. He had dreams of becoming a nurse, however his knees ended up not supporting that dream. Gayland worked for a few years for Road Runner Pharmacy as a pet medicine pharmacy technician. He loved that job because he got to talk to people all day about their pets.
Reflect:
In late, 2017 Gayland started experiencing some health concerns and stopped working. Even though he wasn’t holding a standard job any more Gayland was very happy to help around the house to ensure Andrea did not have to worry about housework after work. Gayland and Andrea enjoyed watching college football together on Saturdays supporting their favorite team the Iowa State Cyclones. Sundays were spent cheering on the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans football teams or watching NASCAR races. Gayland enjoyed Andrea’s cooking, and they spent many hours in their backyard smoking meats, jalapenos, and many other delicious foods. As the years passed, he enjoyed watching the hummingbirds frequent the feeders in the lemon tree. He also loved watching his cat Athena spend her afternoons bathing in the sun in the garden or watching the flowers bloom and vegetables grow while sipping on a cup of tea. He also enjoyed just sitting in house listening to his favorite 80’s bands which included Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Ratt, and of course KISS!
Love:
Gayland was survived by his wife Andrea and their 5 cats Athena Mae, Olivia June, Jax Moon, Ozalynne Shane, and Downy Daschle. His mother Betty Garber of Kingwood, Texas. His sister Babette Wilson, her husband Scottish, and their children Piper and Asher of Stuttgart, Germany. His daughter Rachel and countless friends and family. Gayland was proceeded in death by his friend Mark Leinen, his sister Darcie Lynn Garber, and his father Lloyd Duane Garber. Love those in your life fully with all your heart and soul and your life will be fulfilled!
