Born on December 18, 1938, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Helen Kish and John Laughlin (Leonidas Kapernaros), Gayle grew up on Staten Island, NY. She married Anthony J. Palma, and together they shared over 62 years of marriage, raising three children before settling in Orange County, NY, in 1970.
Gayle found her greatest joy in creating a beautiful and welcoming home, not just as a place to live, but as a reflection of her spirit. She had a deep appreciation for art, antiques, and home décor, always curating a space filled with warmth and charm. More than anything, she cherished the people who filled that space—family, friends, and loved ones who gathered around her table. She thrived on hosting, sharing stories, and cultivating deep, lasting relationships. Her home was not just a place, but an extension of her hospitality, a space where friends became family and memories were made. Alongside her husband, she helped build a small farm and woodworking shop on their property while he served as a NYC firefighter.
A creative spirit, Gayle embraced a variety of crafts, including rug hooking, pickling, gardening, and canning the harvest from their land. She had a unique gift for bringing her visions to life and took immense joy in homemaking and cultivating spaces filled with comfort and reflection.
Gayle worked as an administrative assistant for the Washingtonville School District, where she developed lasting friendships with colleagues and teachers alike. In 2002, she and Tony moved to Prescott, AZ, where they found a wonderful community of friends in their retirement years.
A woman of boundless energy, Gayle discovered a love for travel later in life and was always eager to hear people’s stories, offering a listening ear and engaging with those around her. She nurtured deep, lifelong friendships and was known for her lively spirit.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Tony in 2021, Gayle is survived by her children Lisa Palma, Jillian Aronowitz (Eddie), and John Palma (Virginia); grandchildren Jessica Vogt (Chris), Adam Palma Miller, and Shaina Campbell (Chris); great-grandchildren, and many extended family members and cherished friends.
Gayle’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and beauty she brought to those around her will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
